Seeing as nobody seems to be wanting 2, I'll take my 2nd favorite of 4, in order to have a chance at winning.

That's funny I was actually thinking thinking the opposite - I had a darker scenerio involving teens and a lighter one involving young adults. So here let me break it down into 4 options: This, that, that or the other one: 1) a lighter story involving teens at a summer camp 2) a darker (but not like DARK) story about a group of teens exploring a haunted house 3) a comedic story about adults at an annual office holiday party 4) a darker (but again not DARK) CLUE-esque story about a group of adult strangers invited to a mysterious mansion for a dinner party. I'm totally not sucking up by asking if you can do all 4, am I? I'm feeling a bit light so maybe 1?

Oh yeah, chicks wearing dresses of the 40s, only to find themselves looking like they were born in the 40s. That's a good mental image. Looked it up. Taking it from the film, Clue is set in 1954. Don't think that matters though. Point is, dresses ranging somewhere within 1920-1960 would be really entertaining visually. 😄

I'm going with option #2 followed by option #4 as a close second.

If this first one goes well I'd be happy to roll out all 4 over the course of this next year. If X-rated and/or intentional change had won my initial survey I also had ideas for a story involving a hedonistic hotel that ages people and an adventure of a young AP-loving man and a magic remote. In any event scenario #4 narrowly won this first go-around (though it had a larger victory if you count the fact that it seemed to be many peoples second choice). So today will begin our Clue-themed interactive AP story. I will be posting the first part a little later this evening. We will see how this works with only posting new parts every Sunday. I may post multiple chapters each Sunday and may slip in bits throughout the week as my schedule allows or I may also post multiple This or That options for people to answer each week in the interest of keeping things lively since we'll only be moving the story forward every 7 days. Also feel free to comment with ideas or things you'd like to see happen as the story unfolds. I won't guarantee i'll use any of the ideas but if something works or sparks something for me creatively i'll definitely do my best to work it in. Hope you all enjoy!

Awesome, I'm getting really psyched for this, Chrono 😸
Btw, gotta suggestion that might inspire ya...
Put up a poll. 🗳
Could totally give a little direction with either an obscure question or crucial idea to the storyline.
Just my two cents on the matter, take it or leave it 😘

It was a dark stormy night as the taxi cab pulled up U-shaped driveway in front of the old mansion. The driver came around holding open a bright yellow umbrella and opened the back door of the car. A sandled foot stepped out followed by a pretty girl in an equally bright yellow skirt. She took the umbrella and handed the cab driver a wad of cash nodding her appreciation and then nervously walked up toward the door of the large estate.
In the entryway was a tall hipster-looking young man in an impeccable blue suit. He was ringing the doorbell and looking impatient. The girl closed her umbrella now that she was under the cover of the entrance way and began to shake it out as the young man noticed her.
“Hey! You’re uh, you’re here for whatever this thing is too?” He asked.
The girl pulled out a fancy invitation from her purse.
“Yeah I have no idea why but I got this via snail mail a few days ago and thought i’d check it out.” She said with a smile and a shrug.
The man in the blue suit nodded.
“Yeah me too, until you showed up though I thought someone had played a pretty successful practical joke on me. I’ve been ringing the bell for a few minutes. No ones answering… i’m Russell by the way.” He said holding out his hand to shake.
She placed her petite hand in his with a very slight curtsy, the way a southern belle might.
“Amy. Nice to meet you.” She said with a bright smile.
Russell inspected her a bit closer.
“Hey have we met before? You look very familiar.” He asked.
She shrugged.
“Oh you probably know me from my blog!” She said enthusiastically.
He shook his head quickly.
“Nah definitely not from that. That’s not really my bag.” He said.
Amy looked a little put-off by his dismissal.
“Oh… I don’t know then.” She said a little coldly.
Russell could tell he had offended her and after a moment of awkward silence attempted to salvage the conversation.
“Soooo you’re a blogger huh? What’s your blog called?” He said with a forced smile.
Amy perked up.
“Oh it’s a fashion/pop-culture/life-style blog called Unbottled Blonde!” She explained enthusiastically.
Russell nodded.
“Oh I get it, because of your hair…” He said trying to sound interested.
Amy looked confused for a second and then shook her head.
“Oh no, not just that… my name is also Blonde. Amy Blonde.” She said and then both paused for a second and laughed.
“Heh, maybe you should be a secret agent with a name like that.” Russell said and then rang the bell again looking through the windows for any sign of life stirring from inside the house.
“Maybe it’s a practical joke on both of us.” Amy said with a smirk, checking her phone for the time.
“Hey, if no one comes to let us in in the next five minutes how about me and you go back to my place and get a drink together.” He asked with a roguish grin.
Amy took a step back shyly.
“I don’t usually make it a habit of going to a strange guys house after being stood up for a weird mystery dinner party.” She said with an apologetic smiled.
Russell held out his hands defensively.
“No no no, not my apartment. By my place I meant the bar I run! Sorry i’m not like trying to uh get you into bed or anything… I mean, you’re pretty and all but i’m not that kind of guy either. I was just being uh… trying to make a bad situation better you know… I… uh…”
As Russell stumbled over his words to convince Amy that he wasn’t a creep the door opened.
“Oh thank god!” Russell mumbled turning around to see who saved him.
A slightly stooped old man in a tuxedo opened the door. He had a horseshoe of grey hair around his otherwise bald head and a wrinkled sallow face.
“Miss Blonde and Mr. Cerulean I presume.” He said tiredly in a proper British accent.
“Come join the other guests.” He said opening the door further and flourishing his bony hand into the foyer to guide them inside.
The two young guests quickly entered. Russell leaned over to Amy and whispered out of the corner of his mouth.
“At least that explains why it took so long to answer the door.” He said as they followed the elderly butler down the posh hallway.
“Hey man, sorry we didn’t catch your name.” He asked the bald man.
The stooped butler paused for a moment and turned around to face them.
“My name is Charles Buckingham sir. But you may call me Charlie if you’d like. Please follow me without delay, the mistress is waiting.” The old man rasped as he slowly turned back around to lead them past a large ornate staircase and into a fancy dining room where four people were already gathered.
“Madams, Miss Blonde and Mr. Cerulean have arrived.” Buckingham announced to the room as Russell and Amy walked in and looked around. “Sir and Madam, allow me to introduce you to your host of the evening. Miss Valeria Figure.” He proclaimed in a hoarse voice and then stood stiffly by the door.
An older woman with long wispy grey hair wearing a fancy gold and white pant and blouse ensemble walked over swiftly with a big smile on her face. Her pearl necklace and gold bracelets glimmered with elegance as she shook Russell’s hand.
“Hello it’s a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for coming. I’m Miss Figure.” She said and then moved on to shake Amy’s hand.
“Ah and Miss Amy Blonde! Thank you so much for coming. I love your blog!” She said warmly.
Amy smiled, pleased at the recognition but looked a little perplexed.
“You read my blog?” She asked surprised.
“Yes of course. Why wouldn’t I?” The matronly woman asked furrowing her brow trying to understand the question.
“Oh no, it’s just - I usually resonate more with uh gen-z is all!” Amy said with a smile.
“Well i’m Gen-Y but I loooooove your post last week about Norwegian tiny homes.” Said a young woman with dark black hair and Japanese features wearing a pretty green cocktail dress who was sitting at the large dining table.
“Thank you so much!” Amy said walking over to sit next to the pretty young woman in green.
“Hi i’m Candace. Candace Jade.” The young woman said.
“Amy. Hi!” Amy said looking at the fact that she was indeed sitting in the spot where her name card had placed her.
The door bell chimed and Russell took a seat at the other end of the table next to a red-headed woman in a slinky cherry red dress who was staring at her phone in frustration.
“Errrg! Is there a room in this house with better cell reception??” The woman asked in a voice that belied that she was used to getting her way.
Valeria gave her a sympathetic smile, walking back to the head of the table and sitting down.
“Sadly no. The whole house is a dead zone i’m afraid, Miss Crimson.” The older woman said in a patient voice, seemingly unperturbed by the younger woman’s insistence on accessing her phone.
“Seriously? No wi-fi? Nothing? How do you survive here kid?” Miss Crimson asked the young blonde girl, who looked to be barely out of high school sitting to her right.
The girl was sitting in her seat with her feet propped up on her chair and knees up above the table. Against her skirted thighs was a notepad that the young girl was doodling in, largely ignoring what was happening in the rest of the room. When Miss Crimson asked her the question however she rolled her eyes and smirked.
“I read.” She said in a bored tone.
Valeria smiled nervously to the other guests.
“This is my niece, Kimberly. She’s visiting from university.” The old woman said reaching out to squeeze the coeds young hand.
Kimberly gave her a cat-like smile back before resuming her doodling. Miss Crimson finally gave up on her phone, tossing it into her clutch in frustration and looked up to see that there was a group of people she had yet to meet. She blew some strands of red hair out of her face and gave a harrowed wave to the other guests.
“Hi! Hi! I’m Heather. Sorry about the phone thing. I just thought I could catch up on some e-mails while we wait for - whatever this is!” She said sounding a little impatient.
Russell was quick to respond, clearly admiring Miss Crimson.
“Hey i’m Russell. Let me guess - you’re either an attorney or you work in PR.” He said with a grin.
Heather tucked some of her long hair behind her ear and gave a surprised smirk to Russell.
“I run a public relations firm. Barrett, Schuster and Crimson. How did you guess that?” She asked shaking his hand and batting her eyes at him.
“I’m just that good I guess.” He said maintaining eye contact with her and not letting go of her hand.
There was an awkward moment where the rest of the table sat and watched the two of them undressing each other with their eyes when Buckingham shuffled back into the room and announced:
“Sir and Madams - Mr. Silver has arrived.” He said as a smarmy looking man with a husky build in an off-the-rack grey suit and silver tie entered the room.
“Sir allow me to introduce you to your host this evening Miss Val-” But as Buckingham made the formal introduction Mr. Silver had already sauntered into the room and began glad-handing everyone.
“Hey there pretty lady, how are ya! Nice to meet ya! Ed Silver!” He said to Amy shaking her hand with both of his and giving her a wink. “Hey there gorgeous. Ed Silver. Nice to meet ya.” He said shaking Candace’s hand. “Hey there young lady. Don’t get up, don’t get up. Ed Silver. Thanks for inviting me!” He said to Valeria shaking her hand. “Hey there little miss. Ed Silver - okay! All right!” He said as he attempted to shake Kimberly’s hand and she shooed him away with a dismissive wave. He moved on to Heather which caused him to do a bit of a double take. “Hello beautiful! Where you been all my life! How are ya? Ed Silver! Nice to meet you.” He said kissing her hand and then moving on to Russell that he gave a firm handshake to. “Hey there! Ed Silver. Good to meet you!” He said and patted Russell on the back and moved on to take a seat.
Valeria took a deep breath and smiled.
“Hello Mr. Silver. Good of you to come.” She began.
Ed casually leaned back in his chair and shrugged.
“Not a problem! Not a problem! Thanks for inviting me. Hey you mind if I smoke in here?” He said pulling out a cigar.
Valeria quickly shook her head and Kimberly even momentarily stopped doodling to look to see if he would.
“Please we would prefer if you smoked outside.” Buckingham said as the doorbell chimed again and he turned to shuffle back toward the entrance.
“Ah that should be our final guest of the evening.” Valeria announced taking a seat.
Ed leaned over to Russell and whispered in his ear.
“I hope it’s another broad. The talent at this party is TOP KNOTCH, if you know what I mean. They even have a chick out in the hall I saw as I came in here that’s dress like - honest to go - a french maid!” He said Russell grimaced and scooted a few inches away from Ed.
Amy looked around trying to figure out what the group of them would have in common to be invited to a dinner party together on this dark, dismal night. She turned to Candace.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t catch what you do.” She said making conversation.
Candace nodded.
“No it’s okay, I hadn’t said. I’m a musical artist. Mostly on the west coast but I tour all over the world.” She said.
“Woah that’s very cool! What style of music?” Amy asked enthusiastically.
“Mostly techno/electronica. I play electric violin and we do crazy laser shows for kids tripping on acid. That’s basically my job in a nutshell. I honestly was surprised Valeria had heard of me either. I’m basically the fringyiest of fringe musicians and… oh my god is that the girl from that awesome Elemenza video!?” Candace proclaimed as she pointed to the doorway where Buckingham was guiding in a pretty young brunette woman in a bold hot pink dress, accented with a gold necklace.
“Sirs and Madams Miss Magenta has arrived.” The old butler announced and Miss Magenta held up her hand and waved uncomfortably to the room. “Madam, allow me to introduce you to your host of the evening. Miss Valeria Figure.” He said as Valeria came around and shook the young woman’s hand and pointed her to a seat next to Amy.
“Hi i’m Amy. I’m SUCH a big fan of that Elemenza video you did! It was like nothing i’ve ever seen. I shared it like religiously on my blog.” She said shaking the brunettes hand.
Miss Magenta gave a warm smile back.
“Hey, i’m Lauren. Wait are you Amy Blonde? From Unbottle Blonde? I loooooove your blog!” Lauren said enthusiastically.
“Oh wow thank you so much!” Amy said beaming.
“But seriously, that video - I mean, just wow. If you don’t like totally blow up with like movie and TV deals this year I don’t even know what to say. Elemenza was transcendent!” Candace chimed in hopping up to shake Lauren’s hand.
“It was a commercial!!” Ed shouted across from the table.
“It was just a stupid commercial for what? Some perfume or something! It wasn’t ‘art’, it was just this chick dancing around and making silly faces to hock a product… no offense.” He said.
Lauren smirked at him and rolled her eyes.
“Just because it was also an ad for a product doesn’t mean it can’t be an artistic achievement. Or have you never seen an Andy Warhol painting?” Candace shot back.
Now Ed rolled his eyes and leaned back in his chair again.
“Now see, this is the problem with your generation, you’re so caught up in ‘memes’ and what’s gone ‘viral’ you can’t even tell the difference between when someone is saying something or selling something. I mean, the better for me I guess. I blew up an inflatable pokemon in the front of my dealership and my bottom line went up 150%…. Back me up here Val!” Ed said gesturing over to the older woman at the head of the table to agree.
Valeria held up her hands defensively.
“I don’t know about that. I actually also found the video to be quite good! You’re very talented Miss Magenta.” The elderly woman said to the brunette.
Lauren smiled modestly.
“Thank you so much… i’m starting to feel like way self-conscious with all the compliments though. I’m just a weirdo girl that like to dance in pretty dresses.” She said with a laugh.
“Oh my god, you’re exactly like how I imagined you’d be if I ever met you!” Amy said giving Lauren a hug.
Heather tapped her glass with a folk.
“Yes yes - stars, they’re just like us. As much as I would love to network with you all, and I will certainly give each of you my card before we leave, I believe Miss Figure said that Miss Magenta was the last guest. So I believe we can get on with dinner and the nights agenda.” She said looking expectantly over at Miss Figure.
As if on cue the maid that Ed had seen earlier entered the room with a cart and eight trays. She pranced around gently placing each plate in front of the guests revealing a beautifully arranged salmon dish. Ed was positively drooling as the Maid leaned over to serve Amy, Candace and Lauren and he got a great view of her truly impressive cleavage in her frilly french maid’s top.
“Excusez moi madame.” She said in a sultry voice to Amy as she reached over to pour the young woman some more water.
Ed elbowed Russell and whispered. “Man! She even SPEAKS french!!”
Valeria stood to get the rooms attention.
“Thank you Miss Crimson for the call to order. Thank you all for coming and please begin your meal. As I said as you all entered my name is Valeria Figure. I am the proprietor of this place. The Alder House. Each of you received an invitation to come tonight with the promise of a stake in the Alder group company holdings - valued at an estimated $25 million dollars. I have also been tasked with informing you that in addition to the stock certificates one of you will also be named sole owner of this estate by weeks end.”
There was a murmur from the guests who all looked at one another and then back to Valeria in confusion.
“Wait - you’re giving one of us your house?” Russell asked.
Valeria shook her head.
“Oh you misunderstand. This isn’t my house. I’m just its proprietor.” She explained.
“But why us? How did you come to choose the six of us? Other than you’re fans of some of our work?” Amy asked. Valeria smiled sympathetically at her.
“Miss Blonde, I didn’t invite you.” She said quietly and the guests all murmured again in confusion and concern.
“I have simply been tasked with relaying to you the terms of the deal and oversee your stay here.” She added.
Heather put down her utensils and stood up.
“Uh uh, sorry. This is too weird for me. The investment was appealing but now this is sounding like some weird billionaires manipulation-porn. I’m out.” She said turning with purpose and power-walking to the door.
“Please, I wouldn’t leave miss Crimson… not before you read this.” Valeria said in a calm, though concerned voice, holding out a folded piece of paper.
Heather lingered in the doorway for a moment seriously considering just leaving and then sighed and marched back to the table and took the slip of paper from the old woman’s hand and read it dismissively. Her face got very serious and she folded the paper back and slipped it into her bra and sat back down without saying another word. Valeria gave a tense smile to the group.
“Now then, I hope you all enjoy your time here at the Alder House but the first stipulation of the agreement for you to receive your stake and potentially the house itself is that you will not leave it until sundown on Sunday. No matter what happens.” The old woman explained in a stern tone.
“Wh-what do you mean? What might happen?” Lauren asked nervously.
Valeria shook her head. “I don’t know.”
For the rest of the dinner Valeria went over the legal stipulations of contract and the earnings of the company over the past 10 years. The guests all quietly listened and ate wondering what they had gotten themselves into. The maid came around once more and gathered their plates and brought back small dessert plates. Each guest had a plate in front of them with a single bon-bon sitting on top of a folded card. The guests ate their bon-bons and picked up the cards from underneath, reading the single word that was written in calligraphy inside. Lauren burst out in a laugh at hers.
“Incontinence…what?” She asked looked around with a confused grin.
“Mine says Dentures.” Amy said scratching her head and showing the card to the rest of them.
She felt her teeth almost reassuring herself that they were real.
"Senility. I knew this was some creepy game.” Heather said reading her card and tossing it on the table in disgust.
“I’ve got arthritis… or I don’t *have* arthritis because I wouldn’t be able to do my job, but rather my card says arthritis.” Candace clarified equally perplexed.
“Yeah mine just says hearing-aid.” Russell said looking kind of amused.
“Bald!? What the hell lady! I ain’t bald! What is this?” Ed asked reading his card, upset.
Valeria looked just as surprised and confused.
“I don’t know!” She said.
“Well why is it we all got weird messages and you two didn’t get any!” Ed said in an accusatory tone pointing at Valeria and her niece.
Kimberly gave an exasperated sigh and silently held up a card that read ‘Jowls.’
Valeria motioned for everyone to settle down.
“I think the best thing to do is forget about the cards and let me give you a quick tour of the house and where you all will be staying.” She suggested to the guests as they all looked around at each other wondering what was going to happen next.
THIS OR THAT: They stay and demands answers or they agree to go on a tour of the house.
