Clara excitedly claps at Terra's job. "Oh my gosh! I think I read your blog! I'm kind of a foodie myself! And a bit of a blogger, my fashion blog was about to really take off before... well, you know. People keep saying that I should get back into it but I'd need to find a younger model. I modeled all the outfits myself. Anyway we should totally go to restaurants together! We just have to watch each other because our metabolism is definitely NOT what it was when we were in our 20s. We don't want to end up a couple of fat pre-mature grannies!" She says with a laugh.
Gavin runs his hand through his beard fascinated by Paula's answer. "That's so interesting. I mean, I can understand the fact that now, you've physically matured to a point that a teenage boy might be unappealing but culturally you should have more in common with Gen Zers. I mean all of your social development happened in the 21st century - the tv shows, music, movies, internet memes all of those things were in vogue during your formative years. Where as other women your age were born at the tail end of the depression and grew up through world war II, you completely missed those events. I'm just saying - physically you might get along with the white bearded men at the old folks home, but culturally you should click with the skateboarders outside." He said writing more notes.
Clara looked intrigued. "Paula, did you know any of those skateboard kids outside? They look around your age."

**TERRA: “Well Clara, I mean you could keep the blog going and just change the age range you’re modeling for. You’re still a very striking woman..” her blush deepens further as she watches Clara. At the woman’s last comment, she smiles a bit. “Oh I don’t much mind the weight, as you can tell..” she motions down at her belly. “I can only imagine my eating habits will lead to more honestly as I get older.” She laughs again, trying to play up her newfound confidence.

"What happened?" "I don't wanna talk about it," Lexa replies, pulling her pants up and over her bony knees. She slides off the table gingerly, anxious not to slip and break something at her new age. She ties off her scrubs and puts her hands on her hips, trying her best to look at anything but her roommate. "Okaaaay? Well your boy just headed back inside and you're starting to look like your grandma so what do you want to do?"
"He's not 'my boy'," Lexa mutters grumpily. "I just want to find my shoes, get back to group, and pretend none of this ever happened." "Ha! Good luck with that," Monique mumbles. "What did you say?" Lexa retorts. Why is everyone talking so quietly now anyway? "Oh hey, there's your sneaks!" Monique suddenly points at two discarded red shoes in a corner. Lexa shuffles over, slips her bent toes inside, and stiffly walks out, hand massaging her achey hip. Monique watches her wander down the hall for a moment.
"It's the other way." Lexa turns, slowly doubling back. "I knew that." "Mm hm. Sure." "Shut up."
---
A couple minutes later the two enter the room to find the circle of ladies mid-discussion. Lexa-- now in her 70's with mussed up hair in a frizzy whitened ponytail and Gavin's partially done up button up hanging from her smaller frame-- tries her best to slip around the chairs unnoticed, slowly lowering herself into a seat while Monique pulls up a chair next to her. Wait a minute, were there always this many ladies here?

Clara laughs at Terra's comment too thinking that the silver-haired 40-something was the coolest person she had met since becoming older. "Oh my god, me too. We should just say 'Fuck it'!" She stops and blushes at the group. "Excuse me - 'Eff it', We're old now who cares? We can strut around town like a couple of hot Mrs. Claus' " She flamboyantly. "Do you need a place to stay? Because i'm totes looking for a roommate." Clara blurts out excitedly."Yes, I knew them." Paula sighed. "But it was so long ago.""I like totally feel ya, sister! " Sunny nods. "You guys like gotta understand, Paula and I aren't really Gen Zers anymore. Ya know? I lived through the 60's, and 70's, and 80's. [/quote] Gavin looks at the two time-displaced women increduously. "Okay - mind. Blown." He says and mimics a tiny explosion occuring out of the side of his head. "Does that magic masked dude wipe your memories completely when he sends you back in time? Because what you're describing just theoretically shouldn't be the case. One doesn't just ADOPT new generational touchstones in their 20s and 30s and change personalities. Here! Here let me show you.
He runs to the corner of the room and grabs a white board and pulls it to the center of the group.
"Gavin..." Clara tries to interject worried that he was derailing the meeting a bit but when she sees that some of the group at least seems intrigued she drops it and lets him do his thing.
Gavin begin by drawing a timeline across the top of the board and dotting it with years starting with the 90s going up to the present and the future. Then above it he draws a stick figure baby and then a child then a teen and an adult and an older adult and finally and elderly person across the timeline.
"Okay so everyone begins to learn things as children - how to talk, walk, oject permenance, empathy etc. But we also begin to learn about the world - from our peers, when does this begin? Around the time that we begin school." He says and circles ages 4 through 8 on the diagram.
"We continue and growing and developing physically, mentally and SOCIALLY all through highschool." He draws a BIG circle around ages 9 through 18. "This is where we fundementally solidify our tastes in music, hairstyles, movies, clothing, slang, hobbies, personal preferences even names to give our children. THIS is where our generational touchstones are formed." He says as he lists them all off at the bottom of the white board.
"Now if you take a teenager from THIS time and you bring her down here..." He says drawing a second time line beginning in the 30s and going through present day and then drawing an arrow from the teenager at the top and bringing her down to the late 40s. "She should still retain her tastes, slang, clothing and hair preferences etc. she shouldn't begin to "go native". Because those things become so ingrained in us based on our peer groups as we grow up." He says drawing a thick black box around the list of generational touchstones.
"Take - take the reverse as an example. If that guy- Cal? Cal! If he went back and plucked my grandmother from her bedroom in 1940 when she was 16 and brought her to now and she lived in this time for the next 60 years - She would still be all about pleated plaid skirts, bobby socks, saddle shoues and snug fitting sweaters. She would still prefer Big Band music over pop. She would fundementally struggle with computers and the internet because she has no experience with it!" He says slapping his hand against his other hand for emphasis.
He turns to Skyler and Amy. "Back me up here - you're both still mentally teenagers - could you ever see yourselves 'forgetting how to use snapchat' and changing out your taste in music and movies for those of the 1940s or 50s because you were stuck in that time? It just seems absolutely crazy to me!" He says tossing his hands up in frustration. Clara comes over and puts her hand on his back.
"Okay, good points, good points. I think you should go get some water dear." She says to him with a patronizing smile as she gently guides him out of the circle toward the refreshment area. As she does she turns around to see Lexi shuffling in, in missmatched clothes looking almost two decades older than she did a few minutes ago. "Oh my god Lexi! What happened!? Are we getting hit by an age wave! Is there a Donkey-a... Donkava-whatsit in the church!? Did that asshole Calum send you back in time!!!!!?" She says sounding fearful at first and then angry.

Terra smiles at Clara's proposition, feeling her heart beat quicken slightly. "Yeah, Clara, that would be awesome. I've been looking to get out of my current apartment and into something a bit more comfortable, and having a roommate would make money more manageable too." Just then, little fantasies flit through her head of cooking for Clara, snuggling beside a potential fireplace, sharing glasses of wine and thoughts about all manner of subjects. Maybe they could jumpstart each others blogs again and help one another out as a support system. Suddenly her attention shifts to the gentleman, feeling fairly intrigued by his theories. Then a rather old looking woman enters the room and Clara seems flustered. Feeling a sense of wanting to comfort, Terra too goes to Lexa. "Oh my, dear, what happened to you?"

Lexa freezes, realizing she’s been caught as the two women converge on her. “Clara and, uh...” she once again finds herself squinting at a nametag, this time for the new silver haired woman, but it’s hopeless. “And new girl! I’m fine, everything’s fine. Just a little Senioritis flare up. No big deal. I don’t even think I’ve aged that much,” she claims, waving an age spotted hand.

Clara could tell Lexa was upset.
"Sure you haven't dear. You could totally pass for... 30!" She said trying to sound sincere.
"Why don't you just sit back and take it easy, you haven't really missed much. This is Terra, she was caught in that age wave that hit California last week... and you remember Skyler, and that's Amy her girlfriend." She said pointing at the two old ladies across from Lexa. "And of course Sunny. And you met my friend Gavin over there. DO YOU REMEMBER GAVIN?" She said loudly into Lexa's ear as if she was Clara's elderly grandmother at a party being introduced to guests. "And this is uh Paula, who up until a few minutes ago was a teenage volunteer here at the church." She added quickly pointing to the shriveled white haired granny sitting on the other side of her from Monique.

"Maybe shouting isn't the best idea, dear.." Terra chuckles and pats Clara on the back softly as she takes Lexa's hand in hers. "Hello Lexa, I'm Terra. Could you possibly tell us the last thing you remember? We all come from different backgrounds of aging. What was yours? And do you know what happened to you just now?" She looks into Lexa's eyes, seeing the young girl and her fear simmering at the surface. What had happened to Lexa? And why are all of these women suddenly aged? Is there a connection that Terra couldn't see?

Lexa cringes as she covers her ringing ear. "Yeah, ouch Clara. They still work, " she responds, secretly relieved that she's not completely deaf, although that volume sure wasn't helping. She looks down, seeing the middle-aged Terra’s hand holding her newly wrinkled one. She feels a pang of surprise seeing how aged it looks by comparison, but quickly puts it out of her mind.
"Terra? Nice to meet you. I was, uh, just looking for a restroom when I had a sneezing fit. That's what aged me. It's some sort of bacterial infection. Don't worry, I'm not contagious, just apparently still at risk for spontaneous Senioritis. Up until a few minutes ago I was 57. Now...well... I'm not exactly sure." She nods to the white board, which looks to her to be covered in scribbles. "What's with all the doodling? Is this some sort of therapy thing?"

Sunny and Paula shake their heads in unison at Gavin.
"It's just, like, not at all like that. Ya know?"
"Think of it as moving to another country."
"Exactly! But it's the same country, except the culture is kinda different."
"If I didn't want to come off alien, I had to dress a certain way, act a certain way, eventually, I was just like the rest of the girls my age."
"You have to assimilate and stuff to survive. I had to be twenty-something in the 70's."
"A mother in the fifties."
"Thirty-something in the 80's."
"A grandmother in the 70's."
"Do you get what we're saying? We had to abandoned a lot of who we were. Had to."

Gavin took a swig of coffee at the concession table. "Yeah yeah, I get it, you've lived through a lot. But you're back in your original time now. Like if you went and lived in a new culture abroad and came BACK. There has to be something about now being back in the time you were when you were shunted you must feel some connection to. Those Gen Z teen girls must be in there somewhere, you can't just wipe all that clean." He says waving his hand intensely.Clara cringed wondering if it was such a smart idea to bring Gavin to the group. She turned back to Lexa and Terra. "I'm so sorry about your senioritis. God, i'm sooooo thankful they were able to shut down that cursed amulet before I got old like tha-.... er older than I got. Soooo Terra, what can you tell us about the age wave? Was anyone else you know effected? Lexa and Monique, who are the celebrities you are most sad about suddenly becoming old? Because, it's honestly like a national tragedy. You'd think if magic was going to make Brie Larsen old it'd at least like make Helen Mirren young again!" She said trying to spark some conversation again. "Oooo Paula, maybe there are some celebrities you liked as a teenager who are like all old now so you can relate to them again!" She suggests.

Monique swipes through her cellphone. “People are saying on Twitter that Taylor Swift has started cancelling tour dates because she’s going to need hip replacement surgery, which sucks because Lex and I had tickets...”
She looks up, fear in her eyes: “You don’t think we lost Beyoncé, do you? What if she...retired?” Monique can barely utter the words.

"Oh, I don't know much about the wave other than it affected a good portion of the city. Most of my friends were unaffected, except for a few of the boys. Most of them were infantilized, but a fair chunk were made into old men. I remember this one guy Derek had aged along with this girl while they were having sex. Didn't seem to stop them though, from what I heard. Most people treated me the same after it happened, though I could tell me girl friends were fairly grossed out at the thought of being aged." Terra lets her eyes wander down to the floor for a moment. "There was this guy I was seeing. He didn't take to kindly to my aging. He called me fat and ugly and stormed out of the apartment with a huff. I never saw him again.." Her expression went somber for a moment before she smirked and perked up a little. "Oh well, his loss!" She listens to the ladies trade back and forth concerning the celebrities who may or may not have been affected when suddenly a memory hit her and she turned to Clara. "I do actually remember something else. I've heard rumors that if people continue to age due to aftershocks in the system, the changes will usually take place around midnight. I hadn't really been awake around then to know, but that's the rumor I've heard."

Paula shrugs.
"Justin Bieber looks an awful lot like my late husband these days... but his music? I use to love pop, and when 2010 came around, I was so excited... but I prefer jazz now."
"Yeah, I get what you mean. Grateful Dead, Cranberries, the Police, I get those bands. Lyrics and beat. I use to feel this way with Ariana Grande, but now? I dunno, just sounds like noise."
"I heard she's gotten really into swing musics since she aged." Paula points out. "Poor girl has dementia. Music's really helping her out, I've been told."
"Heard her new album, little old for my taste." Sunny laughs.
"I like it." Paula smiles. "I hate saying that though. Wish I could enjoy Alison Wonderland, Mø, and Postmalone again. But I just can't!"
