THE QUEEN'S REVENGE: A SEQUEL TO SNOW WHITE
CHAPTER 2
By Timewarper
At the direction of her magic mirror, the restored wicked queen, somewhat reluctantly forced back into her role by the mirror spirit, prepared to put the aging spell on Snow White. "The spell can only be put on her in person. She can be found in the forest, at the cottage of the dwarves." the mirror spirit said. "Then that's where I'll go." the beauteous queen replies. "Wait. First, you must surprise her...by going in the form of the old hag." the mirror states. "No...not again...anything but that!" the queen pleads. "You have no choice." the mirror spirit says.
Suddenly, the queen feels that awful feeling come over her again. "No..no!" she pleads, but she cannot stop the arcane magic at work. Suddenly, her hair flows out from under her veil, long and white. She looks at her beautiful, slender hands and watches helplessly as they become bent, wrinkled, veined, and gnarled. She looks towards the mirror and sees her soft, beautiful, timeless features once more be ravage by age, becoming sagging, wrinkled, unrecognizable. She felt her youthful posture break down as she stooped. Her queenly raiment turned into a tattered black peddler's cloak, right before her very eyes. Once again, the horrible peddler crone had replaced the beauteous queen. "No." she said, in a raspy cackle of a voice. "After you do this, it will all be over. You will be fairest, returned to your beautiful self again...never to see that disgusting crone again." the mirror said. That's all the queen wanted now, was to be free and beautiful. And if she had to age Snow White into a withered hag to do so, than so be it. "Then I'm off...to age Snow White!" she said, cackling, taking an old gnarled cane to help support her aged from. And the mirror spirit smiled a wicked smile...
Meanwhile, a little later in the forest, at the cottage of the dwarves, Snow White was out picking flowers. Then, a little farther in the woods, she heard someone, in a raspy voice, calling for help. The dwarves were busy in the cottage, so she went looking. That's when she saw a figure all inblack, lying on the ground. She could tell that it was an elderly woman. Despite her previous experience, the maiden's naivette and her kind heart blinded her, and she went over to help the fallen woman. The beauty grabbed her aged hand, and helped her up. "Are you all right?" the maiden asks. Then, she sees the old woman's face, and recognizes it all too well. "I'm fine now, dearie!" the hag says, gripping Snow White's hand with a strength that defies her advanced years. "You!" Snow White says in fear. Then, the old hag that was once the most beautiful queen in all the land muttered a strange incantation, and Snow White felt a strange surge of energy go through her entire body. The hag then let go, and Snow White stumbled back in fear. The old witch then cackled, and disappeared into a puff of smoke.
Frightened and feeling terribly strange, Snow White frantically returned to the cottage of the dwarves. "What's wrong?" they asked. "I...just encountered my step-mother...as that horrible old woman...she's alive..." Snow White said, frantic, and pale with fear. "We shoulda know that old witch wouldn'a went down that easy!" Grumpy said. "Did she do anything to ya?" Sleepy asked, yawning. "No, nothing except grab my hand...muttered these strange words...and dissappeared in a cloud of smoke." Snow White said. "She probably put some kinda curse on you! Are you all right?" Doc asked. "I..I think so..just frightened..." Snow White said, though she felt stranger than she ever had in her entire life. She went to go wet her face, hoping the cool water would halp to calm her.
But, after she did, Snow White looked in the mirror, and the beautiful young maiden was puzzled by something about her face. She saw tiny lines that had never been there before, jutting out the sides of her eyes. As she looked at them, they seemed to grow, right before her eyes, becoming wider, deeper. She touched the area around her eyes, not quite able to understand what she was seeing. Then to her shock, the maiden saw other lines appear out of nowhere on her flawless face, very quickly. They began to cover her face, as it began to lose its youthful raidiance and tone. She started to see gray streaks appearing in her long dark hair. She looked at her hands and watched as they started to become more weathered and age-spotted. Her perky, youthful breasts began to droop in her beautiful gown. Snow White wanted to scream, but couldn't. At first, she let out a hushed "Help me", but then shouted for her friends. They rushed to the washroom, and were shocked to see what was happening to the fair maiden. She turned to face them, looking so much older. The little men were shocked. "She's aging...right before our eyes!" Grumpy said. "What's happening to me?" Snow White shouted, as she turned back to the mirror. She watched as lines began to crease her once perfect face as it sagged, as her dark hair started to turn completely gray. She looked down at her hands to see them becoming s gnarled and wrinkled as the hag's she had touched earlier. Her breasts drooped completely. Her feet were killing her, and she kicked off her shoes, seeing them become weathered, wrinkled and age-spotted, as her slender toes bent with age and the nails yellowed. She then looked back up at the mirror, and watched as her sagging, lined face collapsed under a collage of wrinkles, and her hair turned as white as her namesake. Her once proud form was now hunched with age. The former maiden did not recognize her reflection...she almost loked the same as the hag her step-mother had become. She touched her lined face with a shaking, aged hand. "No..." she says, in a hushed aged voice that didn't sound like the perky young voice she knew. The dwarves didn't know what to do. They had just watched the youthful, beuatiful maiden they knew age into an unrecognizable old woman. Snow White just put her worn face in her withered hands and sobbed.
The dwarves did the only thing they could do: they took the withered Snow White to the prince, her husband. He was shocked and appalled by what had happened to her. "That hag did this to her...did this to my beloved! I will have my men search the countryside for her, whether the witch be old or young...and she will pay!" he said. Snow White sat, hiding her face from him. He sat beside her, and ran his fingers through her snow white hair. "We'll break that witch's spell, beloved...and we'll make her pay!" the prince said. "I've become an ugly old hag..." Snow White said. "No, you haven't You're that same beautiful person on the inside..the one I fell in love with...and still love. We'll find a way to break this spell...and our love will keep us strong! And no matter what, I will always take care of you!" he assures her, taking her into his arms.
In the meantime, the queen, in the form of the hag, had returned to the duke's estate, and her room. She stood before the magic mirror. "It is done." she said. "Indeed it is, oh queen. nd now you shall see th fruits of your labors." the mirror spirit said. Then, the mirror showed her the image of the aged Snow White. "Perfect!" she cackled. "And now to keep my part of the bargain." the spirit said. Suddenly, the hag's craggy, aged features began to soften, as her cloak once again turned into a queenly raiment. The ancient hag became youthful, radiant, once again. The beauteous queen removed her veil and saw her hair flowing and black once again. ''I'm myself again!" she said, touching her radiant, flawless face with rejuvenated hands. "You are the fairest in the land forevermore, my queen. Farewell." the spirit said, and disappeared, possibly for the last time. Then, the duke enetered the room. "My beloved, are you all right?" he asks. The maiden looks at him and smiles. "Better than I have ever been, my love." she said, embracing him. She was free from the mirror's curse.
In the time that followed, the prince was true to his word, and took care of Snow White. He sent the men scouring the countryside searching for the queen- but they were looking for an old peddler crone, not the beauty she has become again. The prince brought it the best wizards to try and break the spell on Snow White, but to no use. The spell was too strong. Time had been sped up and they could not turn it back, it seemed. Still he loved Snow White the same, for the prince was of a rare breed of men that knew that true beauty came from within.
As for the queen, it seemed the mirror had kept its word. Not only had it restored her beauty, but it never showed itself again. She was able to put her old life behind her, getting rid of the magic books she had, and once again started to wear beautiful, colorful gowns again. She was the man she loved, and who loved her and her exquisite beauty, and she was happier than she had ever been. Then, on the day that she and the duke were to be wed, everything would change.
The beautiful lady was sitting at her mirror, getting ready for the ceremony, wearing a very beautiful gown. She looked as beautiful and gorgeous as ever. Then, to her shock, her reflection began to change...and soon, staring back at her was the old hag! "Hello, dearie!" the crone cackled. "No! Not again!" the fair lady said. "You didn't think I'd miss our wedding day, did you?" the hag said. Then, suddenly, defying reality itself, the crone's gnarled hands reached out through the mirror, grabbing her by the throat. Lady Claudia couldn't scream, the grip was so tight.
Then, suddenly, it was over like it never happened. Claudia opened her eyes to see her youthful self...but smiling wickedly...and she wasn't. Then, the lady realized...she was trapped within the mirror! But who was on the other side...in he body? Then, her other self on the other side of the mirror, in our real world, spoke. "Surprise, dearie." she said, with a wicked grin. Claudia then ralized what had happened...her hag self trapped her in the mirror...and took over her body! "Let me out!" Claudia pleaded, pounding on the glass, but no one could hear. "You see, all we wanted was your soul...and a new spirit for the mirror. Now, I'm free...and you're trapped..the beauty, instad of the hag!" her other self said. Her dark mirror image, the personification of the wicked things within herself, had taken over. Then, the duke came into the room.
"Are you ready, beloved?" he asked. Claudia, trapped on the other side, cried out to him, but he couldn't hear her. "Yes, my love." her darker self replied. "But its time you saw the true me!" Then, before the duke's startled eyes, and the true Claudia's, her beautiful form quickly changed into that of the disgusting hag, still clad in her beautiful gown. "No!" the true Claudia screamed from the other side, unable to stop it from happening. The hag then went over to the duke, and said, "Kiss me, my love!" the disgusted duke could not believe what he had seen...all the rumors he had heard was true...he had heard she was a witch..but never did he realize what a disgusting thing she could become!
Afterwards, the duke banished the withered hag to the forest, but before she left, cast a spell aging all his young handmaidens into old hags. The witch took the mirror with her, and lived out the rest of her days, hated and despised, in an old cottage. The name of Lady Claudia, once applied to the most beautiful woman in all the land, was now applied to the most disgusting witch in the land. Trapped in the mirror, the true Claudia could only watch, seeing what she had become. Many times the hag would go up to the mirror and taunt her, saying "Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?", cackling. The mirror had kept its word, in a way...trapped behind its glass, she would never age..and forever be the fairest. She was trapped in its cold glass, a prisoner of her mirror...of her vanity.
CENTURIES LATER, PRESENT DAY...
A beautiful woman by the name of Lydia Hoffman was moving into a new high-class penthouse apartment. She was a model, the head of her own modeling agency, and had been on the covers of dozens of magazines. Lydia was very beautiful, in many ways like the Lady Claudia, with soft fair faatures and raven dark hair, shoulder-length. Lydia was very vain and narcisistic of her looks, and loathed the competition of the younger models. Some would even call her cold, an ice queen if you will. To go in her new palace of a penthouse, Lydia had acquired a very old antique mirror. No one knew how old it was, but it was very beautiful, and she had an almost mystical attraction to it. One day, Lydia looked into the mirror, and, playfully, said "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest one of all?" Then, to her shock, a new reflection appeared in the mirror...one that was not hers, but belonged to a woman of equal beauty, with raven hair and wearing a beautiful gown. It was Claudia, still imprisoned after all those centuries. "I am." Claudia replied. Frightened, Lydia screamed and threw a statue at the mirror, shattering it. Still frightened, Lydia stared at the shards of glass on the floor.
Then, suddenly, a strange spirit presence grabbed Lydia, and went into her body. When Lydia opened her eyes, she smiled wickedly, a smile the likes of which she had never had Shone before. "This body is perfect! As beautiful as my old one...maybe more!" she said, but it wasn't her speaking. It was the Lady Claudia. She had taken over Lydia's body...making it her own! She was finally free of the mirror, and more youthful and beautiful than ever before.Claudia quickly adjusted to her new body, and went over to a smaller, yet very ornate mirror. "I am still the fairest...and you will be my new mirror!" she said, weaving a spell upon it, enchanting it. She then spoke words that she had not spoken in quite some time..."Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest one of all?" Then, the mirror spoke. "You are, my queen."
