Okay, I'm going to post this here and on the thread I posted in the General Discussion section I posted (the moderator can delete the post if they wish).
I've been roleplaying for quite some time (10+ years), so I know a few things. I will post some general roleplaying rules (specific rules can be posted per roleplay), along with some tips for everyone. If you have any questions about roleplaying, feel free to message me and ask.
The most important rule for roleplaying is, don't control a character that you're not playing (Godmodding). Like for example, I'm playing an old Gal Gadot and your playing a young Lynda Carter. Do go and post saying, "Gal began to walk down the stairs, but quickly fell and broke her hip.", or "Gal walked over to Lynda and said hello, and the two began to talk.". I'm playing Gal, not you. I know that it might not seem like a big idea, but it is. I've been around long enough to know that pisses off a lot of roleplayers (myself included). Most people don't mind if you say something like, "Lynda began to walk, with Gal walking next to her.", it helps moves things along.
If you want to skip ahead in time, ask your roleplay partner(s), and if they're okay with it, then go ahead and do a time skip.
It's alright to take control of non-playable characters (NPCs), such as Lynda or Gal's managers, if nobody else is controlling the characters. You can also take control of a character that someone else is playing for your post, ONLY with their permission. Speak to the person and see if they're okay with it.
If you're going to be gone for an extended period of time, let your roleplay partners know, so you don't keep them waiting. If they ask to play your character while you're gone, that's up to you.
In regards to the actual roleplay itself, if you're typically playing with multiple roleplay partners, and want to have your character talk to another character specifically, post something like this (Attention: or Attn: ) in the beginning of your post. Like for example, I'm playing Piper, you're playing Phoebe, and someone else is playing Paige (from Charmed), and I want to get Paige's attention, I would say, Attention/Attn: Paige, then continue with my post.
If you're controlling more than one character, then separate when you're posting for each character. Typically put down which character you're writing as. If you're going to write as more than one character in your post, make sure to put a space (like in a book) in your post. However, if you wish to do one post per character, then go ahead, just try to be some detail in your post, instead of making it one line. If you're doing a one line post per character, then I would suggest doing your post with your character(s). Save people time on looking for posts in a long list (pages) of posts in the thread.
Last thing, I swear. Proper grammar and spelling. Not a lot of people (myself included) are fans of text talking. Of course, if English isn't your first language, then that's fine. Let us know beforehand.
